Description
Punarnava is a perennial herb that grows diffusely and typically has a purple horizontal stem. Plant length is between 0.75 and 1 m. However, it occasionally rises to four meters during the wet season and dries up in the summer. Punarnava leaves are typically 2-4 cm long, smooth and white on the underside, and hairy and rough green on top. The blossoms are red in color and tiny in size. Fruits are circular or spherical and are approximately 1 centimeter in length. These fruits have cow bean-like seeds in them. When the surface is dry, punarnava roots are long, rounded, and twisted, ranging in color from yellow-brown to brown. Winter is the season for planting and flowering.
Habitat
In India, boerhavia diffusa is found everywhere. Additionally, Australia, South Africa, Brazil, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, and the southern United States are home to it. This native herb of India can be found in the more temperate regions of the nation up to 2000 meters in the Himalayan region.
