Over Digitalis Lanata

Een soort vingerhoedskruid, Digitalis lanata genaamd, wordt ook wel wollig vingerhoedskruid of Grieks vingerhoedskruid genoemd. De hele plant van Digitalis lanata is, net als bepaalde andere vingerhoedskruidsoorten, giftig. Wanneer de vergiftiging door digitalis een kritiek niveau bereikt, zijn de symptomen misselijkheid, braken, verwijde pupillen, hevige hoofdpijn, wazig zien en krampen. In sommige gevallen wordt het beschouwd als een schadelijk onkruid. Digitalis lanata is een meerjarige plant die altijd in blad staat, bloeit in juni en juli en begin tot midden september rijpe zaden produceert.

Toepassingen van Digitalis Lanata

Zowel boezemfibrillatie als hartfalen worden behandeld met digitalis. Daarnaast heeft het een verscheidenheid aan andere conventionele toepassingen.

Morfologie

De plant wordt doorgaans 33 tot 66 centimeter hoog, ofwel ongeveer 0,3 tot 0,6 meter. De plant geeft de voorkeur aan humusrijke grond en wat schaduw. Ook leem-, zand- en kleigrond gedijen goed. De plant kan zowel in droge als vochtige omgevingen floreren.

1. Zaden

Kleine, haakvormige peulen bevatten de zaden tijdens het rijpingsproces. Deze peulen kunnen worden verplaatst door ze te dragen of door ze te bedekken met dierenbont.

2. Bladeren

De lange, wollige, geaderde en aan de onderkant omwikkelde bladeren hebben een middengroene kleur en zijn bedekt met witte haartjes. De smaak van deze bladeren is extreem scherp.

Dosering

Omdat digitalisblad een beperkte therapeutische index heeft, is constante medische begeleiding noodzakelijk voor veilig gebruik. De aanbevolen startdosis is 1.5 gram van een blad, tweemaal daags toegediend in aparte doses. De dagelijkse inname van pure digoxine varieert van 0,125 tot 0,25 milligram.

Chemische bestanddelen

Het is een bron voor de aanmaak van digoxine en andere glycosiden en is krachtiger dan Digitalis purpurea. Hoewel andere stoffen ook in Digitalis purpurea voorkomen, zijn digoxigenine en dignatigenine exclusief voor Digitalis lanata.

Het vermindert de atrioventriculaire geleiding, waardoor de hartslag vertraagt en de contractiekracht enigszins toeneemt. Patiënten met congestief hartfalen hebben een betere bloedsomloop, waardoor de nieren normaal kunnen functioneren, de urineproductie wordt gestimuleerd, het bloedvolume afneemt en de belasting van het hart vermindert. De directe cytotoxiciteit van Digitalis lantana, die apoptose induceert, de onderdrukking van de activering van stikstofmonoxide-synthase, de preventie van aflatoxine-geïnduceerde cytotoxiciteit en de verhoging van glutathion-S-transferase-niveaus zijn slechts enkele voorbeelden van de manier waarop deze planten kanker bestrijden.

Diabetes

Dierstudies tonen aan dat Digitalis lanata een gunstig effect heeft op het lipidenprofiel. Zelfs twee uur na toediening van een eenmalige dosis van de saponine digitonine vertoonden hyperglycemische en dyslipidemische ratten een verbeterde glucosetolerantie.

Naast de behandeling van hartaandoeningen wordt Digitalis lanata ook commercieel gebruikt. In India wordt het ook gebruikt als zalf voor brandwonden en wonden, die digitalisglycosiden bevat.

Contra-indicaties

Het gebruik van Digitalis lanata is gecontra-indiceerd bij kinderen, omdat deze plant potentieel dodelijk is.
Het gebruik van deze plant wordt ook afgeraden tijdens de zwangerschap en de borstvoeding, omdat het negatieve effecten kan hebben.

Interacties

Digitalisglycosiden en digoxine hebben diverse interacties. Er zijn negatieve gevolgen waargenomen van de combinatie van Digitalis lanata met verschillende medicijnen, variërend van mild tot levensbedreigend.Cimetidine en triamtereen zijn twee geneesmiddelen die minimale effecten hebben bij gebruik in combinatie met Digitalis lanata. Wanneer Digitalis lanata samen met diverse andere geneesmiddelen wordt toegediend, zoals amiodaron, ciclosporine, macrolide- en tetracycline-antibiotica, propafenon, kinidine, verapamil en diuretica, treden vaak verhoogde digoxinespiegels in het serum of elektrolytenstoornissen op.

Bijwerkingen van geneesmiddelen

Toxiciteit is doorgaans een factor bij bijwerkingen van Digitalis lanata. Om Digitalis lanata veilig te kunnen gebruiken, is continue medische begeleiding noodzakelijk.

Toxicologie

Deze plant is in alle opzichten giftig. Kinderen hebben gezondheidsproblemen ondervonden door het eten van de zaden of bladeren, of door het inademen van de bloesems.
