Moong Dal Khichdi

Moong dal khichdi is a nutritious recipe for many illnesses. This recipe is healthful and delicious because it incorporates green lentils with rice. This is light to digest and very simple to chew. This makes it easier to successfully manage medical issues. It is served frequently with ghee, buttermilk, or curd to infants and the elderly.

 

Ingredients to prepare Moong Dal Khichdi

  • 2/3 cups rice
  • 1/3 cup moong dal (Green lentils)
  • 3 ½ cups water
  • 1/4 tsp. turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp. cumin seeds or powder
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1 tbsp. Olive oil or Cow's ghee

 

Method to prepare Moong Dal Khichdi

  1. Combine 1/3 cup Moong dal and 2/3 cup Rice and wash it thoroughly with clean water.

  1. Light the pressure cooker and add 1 tablespoon of ghee (clarified butter) /olive oil.

  1. Allow it to warm up slightly and add 1/4 tsp cumin seeds or powder.

  1. Add the dal and rice and lightly roast it for 2 minutes after the seeds begin to splutter.

  1. Add salt, turmeric powder, and 3 1/2 cups of water.

  1. Stir well, then shut the pressure cooker's cover.

  1. On a medium temperature, cook for three to four whistles.

  1. After putting out the flame, allow 8 to 10 minutes for the pressure to naturally decrease.

  1. Now that the top has been lifted, the khichdi is ready to be served.

You can adjust the consistency and thickness by adding more water.  Add garlic, curry leaves, or coriander leaves in step 3 for more flavor. You can add chopped vegetables in step 5 for added nutrients and immunity support.
